From hip hop to jazz … from dance to the blues: it’s music, and there’s a style for everyone. Some of the greatest music in the world comes from Britain, and British music is still topping the charts today.
The Premises recording studios are big players in the music industry. Everyone from Lana del Rey to the Arctic Monkeys come here. Let’s find out more.
If you’ve heard of them, they’ve probably played here. The Premises has been one of London’s most popular studios for over 25 years. It has space for rehearsing, recording and mixing some of the best music in the world.
Viv Broughton is the studio boss.
Richard: Viv, tell me about The Premises.
Viv: Well, The Premises is a complex of recording studios and I don’t really think there’s anything quite like it anywhere in the country. It's a mixture of rehearsal studios, recording studios, a lively café, storage facilities, so it's a really busy place. Hundreds of people passing through all the time.
Richard: What sort of artists come here?
Viv: Oh, a mixture of people. I mean, we've been going for 26 years so almost everybody you can think of has passed through the doors one way or another, so I think in the last couple of years people like Rihanna and Adele and Lana Del Rey. Last month we had Ronnie Wood in from the Rolling Stones, so it's quite a mixture of people.
Richard: What is it about Britain that creates such musical talent?
Viv: Ah, that's a good question. It's a bit of a mystery but there just must be something in the water or in the air. Britain produces just so many amazing bands, from The Beatles and the Rolling Stones onwards and it's a melting pot of great recording and writing talent.
Britain has some of the world’s greatest music festivals. This is Bestival in the Isle of Wight. For four days every year, thousands of people come to this award-winning event to listen to and watch some of the greatest music acts around. There’s music here for everyone …

Teenagers in my country usually listen to English music, especially Adele, 1D, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Carly Rae Jepsen, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Maroon5,.... Vietnamese music is not really popular, though. I think they are always looking for a new style of music to attract listeners, but unfortunately they took it from the other countries, so Vietnamese music is very unpopular with youth :))
Teenagers in my country usually listen to K-pop and US-UK music, but V-pop ( Vietnamese music also plays an important part ). Unlike many popular kinds of music in the world, Vietnamese music has a lot of missions.
1) Vietnamese folk songs convey the messages of love for hometown, for villagers and each region has a kind of folk music. Many of them have been recognized by UNESCO.
2) Vietnamese songs composed in war (1945 is the land mark ) promoted the patriotism, encouraged soldiers fight for the liberty.
3) Vietnamese children songs for 4 to 9 year-olds have educated them to be good girls/boys. These songs foster a sense of calm in their minds.
4) Vietnamese children songs for 10 to 14 year-olds have taught them to pursue dreams and work hard to realize them.
5) Vietnamese songs for teenagers appreciate loves, hopes and desires, encourage teens become devoted people, always be industrious in studying, working, contribute to developing the country and together create a happy society.
6) Vietnamese songs for adults often reflect daily experience but tend to mention to broken hearts with grief, stinging thoughts about life and love.
7) Vietnamese educational songs are always paid a lot of attention, musicians strongly believe in the power of music which can help students change their bad attitude, respect the older, love kids.
8) Vietnamese songs can help us learn by heart many poems and remember historic events effectively. Undoubtedly, many poems have been composed in songs.
9) One thing for sure is that songs always appreciate Vietnamese women and girls, respect their talents as well as beauty.
So, Vietnamese music is great, it's very important. And Vietnam is a nation where people can live in harmony with music.:v
- You're exactly right, but....
- ....In my view, folk songs as well as war songs aren't really popular with people nowadays (except old people, maybe)
- Children songs are great, they are pretty high-education but youth don't want to listen to it much.
- As I see, songs for teenagers are always about broken-heart, sad love, someone who don't love us, bad boy/bad girls. I feel very fed up with it. That's what they call "one color"
- I admit, that there are several songs about love for the fatherland and how beautiful our country is but not so many ~
- When i asked my friends bout V-pop, they'll be like "Ah, don't ask stupid question like that, I'm sick with it, always love and love and love"
- One more reason that I am not keen on V-pop is plagiarism. Even the Korean newspapers also reported on this story. It's really embarrassing ;(
- However, that 's my opinion. Please rep ~ Call me Jamie.

Hi ellen ;)
I am very glad for you :) Changes in my life are also not big. My greatest achievement is that I finished my fifth article. I introduce it when I went on different science conferences. I travelled a lot by Ukrainian cities due to this :) Also I made new friends and quarreled with some old. But I am happy that it was in my life, because it's opened my eyes on my closest (like I think before) people. So now I am not preparing for university at all, because I am too indolent... I don't know who I want to be in future. It's too hard to determine...
So what about you? Have you consider what occupation will you choose in future? How much degrees do you have in your country now? What do you usually do in the evenings? Do you go somewhere or do you prefer to seat at home? In what time do you come back at home after school?
