What does it mean?

Vocabulary tests and exams can be difficult. If the words are presented in sentences you can always try to guess the meaning from the context. If you have to translate words from your language into English you need to spend time revising and learning the words before the test. Use the advice in this section to boost your memory to help you learn new words to prepare for vocabulary tests.

  • Do you understand the word?
  • Do you know how to spell the word? Is spelling an important part of the test or not?
  • Does the word look similar to another word?
  • Does the same word have more than one meaning?

For example:

watch – a verb, to look at something
watch – a noun, an object you use to tell the time
