I love reading exams. I dont have any problems at all. Once you understand what the whole story is about and the questions what is asking you for. Then your good to go. :)

I love reading exams, too. But the reading exams makes me very nervous, when I don't know the words... I'm from Poland and all the words are diffrent in English, we have to learn more than for example German.

Hi NVictoria. It's a good question. I think the best thing to do is check with your teacher, because it depends on which exam you are taking. For most international exams, such as IELTS, it's ok to speak in any accent as long as you can communicate clearly. But for some other exams, there might be a preference for one particular accent, so maybe your teacher can help. Good luck :)

Hi britshcouncil ;)
The international English language testing system (IELTS) is the world's most popular English language proficiency test for higher education and global migration. You can find out more about it here. IELTS assesses all of your English skills — reading, writing, listening and speaking, and is designed to reflect how you will use English at study, at work, and at play, in your new life abroad. I hope this helps!
Best wishes, Tina (LearnEnglish Teens Team)

The reading exam's are quite easy bad sometimes are very difficult because I don't understand every word in the text so is very hard for my to understand the whole text and then answer the questions bad I found this problem only when it is very long text like a 3-5 pages on both sides .

I love to read. From comics, textbooks to horror stories, novels or newspaper (everything is in English). And I also watch CNN too :)) I really think they are the best way to improve my vocab as well as the listening skill. If there are words that i still don't know after guessing, i just highlight it and search Google. My teacher told me that learn the family word is exactly work! Like, from 1 word we could learn 5 more words from it. And after a short time, our vocab from 1000 to 5000 words! How interesting it is =]] Anyway, these are my useful tips while I'm reading. I hope it will be useful with you guys too ;D

Hi Teressa. Yes, it can be difficult to choose between two similar options in a multiple choice question. You can find some tips here:

Pay attention to every word in each option. Every word is carefully chosen by the question setters and even small words are important because they can change the meaning of the whole answer. Ask yourself, 'what's the difference in meaning between these answers?' And look for words and phrases in the text which mean the same thing or similar because sometimes they use synonyms instead of repeating the same words. Good luck!

I like doing grammar acitivities, and reading is also ineresting. Our English teacher gave us a book about Sherlock Holmes. We read one chapter in a week. It's very ineresting and mysterios and it helps us with our vocabulary.
