My favourite things about autumn

If you live in the Northern hemisphere, autumn is probably drawing to a close in your country. In the South of France, where I am working for my year abroad, we have been extremely lucky with the weather this year. I only started wearing a coat a few weeks ago, and last weekend I had a picnic in the park with all my friends! However, I am starting to slowly accept that this weather won't be around forever, and as the days get shorter and colder and winter creeps up on us, I'd like to remind myself of the best things about my favourite season ...

The colours.
I love the slow change from green to orange to red to brown during the months of autumn. Nothing is more beautiful to me than walking down a long road with trees full of leaves on either side, all of different colours and textures. Whether a park, street or your garden, autumn makes any location look like a postcard!

Being outside.
In September, October and November, the weather is colder than usual, but I find it refreshing and crisp. I love running around outside to warm up, whether by going for an afternoon jog or climbing all over piles of leaves like a child! These months are the last chance to spend a lot of time outside before winter comes, so I try to make the most of it.

The food.
I love the dishes that accompany cold weather: they are warming, filling and comforting. My preferred meal is a casserole or stew with lots of rice or mashed potatoes, or my mum's spicy curry. It's just the kind of thing you want to come home to after a long day of work or school.

The holidays.
Autumn is packed with the best holidays of the whole year! Most people know about Halloween, which is popular worldwide, but in England there are even more celebrations! We love Bonfire Night and Guy Fawkes' Day, which involve being outside in the fresh air with fires and fireworks. I'm also biased because I celebrate my birthday in September, so of course I look forward to autumn every year.

Although I'm looking forward to winter, autumn is without a doubt my favourite season of all ... so I'm already counting down the months to next September!
