Could a meteorite collision really mean the end of life on Earth? Read this to find out what happens when small meteorites collide with Earth, and just how much damage a big one could do.

Do asteroids scare you? Why or why not? Have you ever experienced any type of natural disaster?

I'm not really scared of asteroids because scientists will warn us if we are in danger. And I have never experienced any type of natural disaster, and I hope not.

M8, I just want to say that this article is not completely correct, comets don't have talks behind them, but behind where the sun is facing.

Thanks a lot for your comment! You must really love science - that's amazing that you know so much about comets. We'll double check this article. Thanks a lot!

I'm not that scared of asteroids because I trust the scientist saying that are in no danger. I have never experienced a natural disaster.

A week ago I was outside with my brother at 4 a.m. looking at the stars and they looked so beautiful and I also saw two comets and I was really excited because not every day I see a comet.

I believe there is life on other planets, and scientists are studying. The experience of natural disasters bats. Was met with a flood event.

They are not scary but i guess they were not the reason the dinosaurs died. That much force in a moment can push earth out of it's orbit or worse - destroy a large chunk of it into pieces. Maybe it happened and Earth was flung into orbit by the impact from somewhere we do not know and the Sun alongwith the planets could have holded Earth in orbit. (SOUNDS REALLY INSANE!!!)

No, I'm not afraid of asteroids now, because I believe the scientists monitor potentional hazzards. Even though, I have no idea about what would we do if scientists said that a huge asteroid is going to hit Earth in the near future. As for the natural disasters, I never experienced anything similiar, but there were enormous floods in neighbouring countries.

I think you're right .Maybe scientists can make some devices that can destroy asteroids ,I mean,it's a long rode to 2046 XD

Why to destroy them? Scientists can make spacecraft that can redirect the asteroid. If the asteroid is detected early enough, even the smallest direction changes can make it miss Earth.

I am not afraid because I believe that our luck will help us again and I believe in Jupiter so I hope that asteroids don't hit the Earth because many lives will be taken. I haven't seen any natural disaster but I saw the Red Moon ...It was beautiful

I feel scared by an approaching natural disaster rather than asteroids. Though I haven't seen major natural disasters but for a big earthquake!
Ah, yes, I saw the Red Sun, which was beautiful as usual!

Actually, other natural disasters are dangerous too. Earthquakes can destroy a region, but unlike asteroids which are a threat for the whole globe earthquakes are a threat only for a region as I said earlier.

I think it might be possible that the Earth will end because of the asteroids.
But I don't feel really scared…. because it's beyond my imagination!!
In 65 million years? OMG! >>>>>>>>>

There are a lots of those asteroids in space, so it's hard to say, if it scares us. Ofcourse, small meteorids are not scary at all, they are even beautiful. But the bigger one, well... Let's just hope they wont disturb us for another million years :))

I am not afraid of asteroids because I think they are natural and necessary for universe. Yes I know it may be dangerous and damageful but everything happens for a reason. For example if dinousours didnt extinct we couldnt live easily like in today. I have never experienced any type of natural disaster. Actually ı want it so much !

I'm not sure, that could be very dangerous for us, but i have many dudes about it...And I have never had an experience of natural disasters... but I consider that the natural things have a big power and in a early future that could be one of the biggest problems that we coul have in our lives

I am not afraid asteroids because I live in such a small country that I think it would not be hit. But then I wake up and realize that we are all equal natural disaster. In my country during the summer have of frequent fires, and in the winter have less blizzard so I got used to it. But besides that, I have never experienced a natural disaster. ;)

I am not scared of asteroids either. But because of another reason. Space is big enough so that spacecraft and asteroids need years to move between two major celestial bodies. Scientists have plenty of time to detect the threat and come up with something. Your point is kinda wrong, because if a massive asteroid hits, Whole planet would be burnt and if a medium size asteroid struck at least one half of the globe would be destroyed and still the whole Earth would be affected. So not too positive on that side!

M8 asteroids can't destroy the earth. Let me tell you what happens on impact. First a huge crater gets formed (not that big in comparison without the earth), then because of all the energy it explodes, and with that it might cause a tiny fire but I'm not sure. When the explosion happens though, dust particles will be released blocking the sun, which will cause the temperatures to plummet and that would make complex life impossible (basically any living thing you can see will be impossible for a good while). This is because two reasons. One: the temperature is simply to low for any complex life. And the main reason is that photosynthesis won't be possible (the process of plants generating oxygen and glucose from water air and light) which means plants won't be able to grow (because glucose is basically sugar that allows the plant to grow) and that they can't release oxygen. Why is this a problem you ask, well first off, we need oxygen to breathe and plants are an important food source that is eaten by a lot of animals.
