This is a film for my girlfriend Ella.
She went travelling for six months.
This is what happened
Jack: I can’t even speak.
Ella: If one of us is crying then I’m gonna cry, if you cry I’m not going to let us both cry right now. I’ve done my crying … won’t do it. It’s just s***. I’ve missed you. I can’t come home. I want to but I don’t. Is that selfish?
Jack: I wanna come out there.
Ella: I want you to be here. Let’s make a film, I wish I had my camera right now actually. I should be filming this, the breakdown. it’s too much right now.
Jack: If you watch the film, what happens in the film?
Ella: What happens in the film is what exactly what’s happening right now, what happens, I’ll tell you exactly what happens. You’ve got to pick a random date, don’t tell me when it is, book your flight, tell me you’ve booked your flight but don’t tell me when the date is. Please, just don’t!
A Film for Ella
Jack: So the other day on Skype Ella jokingly challenged me to book a spontaneous flight and come out and see her in Australia. Three days from now is Ella’s 19th birthday and so I thought it might be a suitable idea to do exactly that ... Cool (giving money to the taxi driver) ... Hello Terminal 3 … Hello there, how are you doing? Thank you.
Check-in desk man: What time's your flight today?
Jack: Thank you (giving passport and ticket to check-in staff).
Airport announcement: There will be a slight delay for boarding this evening's aircraft CX338.
Air stewardess: Good evening … also this seat.
Ten hours to Hong Kong
Jack: So we’ve just landed in Hong Kong, that’s a ten and half hour flight down. Now I have eight hours layover here and then another ten hours to Sydney.
Eight hours in Hong Kong
Jack: Time to catch a flight to Australia.
Flight announcement: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Sydney.
Jack: I did it, landed at Sydney, so it’s currently 7.30 in the morning on Thursday and Ella’s birthday is tomorrow so I think I’m going to surprise her in the morning.
Ella’s Birthday Today
JuJu: It’s Ella's birthday today and Ella’s 18. Oh wait, she's 19!
Ella: (giggles) It is, yes …
JuJu: How’s your birthday been, what’re you doing? What are your thoughts? What are you feeling?
Ella: I’m feeling full but I can always do with more breakfast ...
Jack: So it’s Friday morning which means it’s Ella’s birthday today and I’m going to jump in a cab to where she lives and surprise her.
Florist: These are peonies.
Jack: Oh yeah, perfect.
Florist: There is any special occasion today?
Jack: It’s her birthday.
Florist: Her birthday ah, OK.
Jack: Have a nice day, see ya! Hi there.
Ella: I’m feeling wonderful of the day ahead.
Jack: Is that number 9 there?
Taxi driver: Yeah.
JuJu: Shall we go downstairs and show them the beautiful garage?
Ella: Beautiful garage! The beautiful garage …
JuJu: The beautiful, beautiful garage.
Ella: I didn't do any laundry, I’m so dead, my mum gave me a cute Skype call. This is our beautiful garage, beautiful, love it.
JuJu: It’s lovely.
Ella: Outside, it’s even more exciting.
Ella: (screeching) No … no ...Oh my god, no.
Ella: It gets deeper, you just have to run and splash, OK?
Jack: OK. Ready?
Ella: One, two ...
Thanks to JuJu for filming, and to Ella’s parents by Jack Harries
