Why I love Wimbledon

by :

As a tennis fan, I love watching all the major tournaments on the TV, but there is nothing better than seeing the action close-up. Apart from the prices, Wimbledon has everything down to a tee: the close attention to detail, whether it be the grass courts cut at exactly 8 mm, or the longstanding traditions of strawberries and cream, Ralph Lauren sponsors, the 75% white rule, not to mention the green and purple colour scheme known world-wide.

Like any event, things have to run like clockwork, so it is no wonder that preparations are underway for the following year as soon as the two-week tournament ends.

Although many may find it tedious or boring, the queue takes between 4 and 6 hours on average and provides a fantastic opportunity to get into the tennis spirit. You never know who you might meet in the queue, and this year I met an Australian wheelchair player ranked number 3 in the world!

Centre Court tickets are almost impossible to obtain, but we were still able to watch some high quality tennis on other courts and if we really wanted to watch a Centre Court match, we headed for 'Murray Mound' which is a huge patch of grass located on a hill where fans can get together and eat their picnic snacks under the glorious sunshine.

Have you been to a big sporting event?

I've never been to any sporting events, let alone a real big one. If I could go to one, I would definitely love to be at Wimledon. My favourite sport is tennis, that is the reason.
