New Year - new me or better me?

by GraceBlogger

At the beginning of every new year, it is very typical to make News Year's resolutions. Mostly they concern areas to try something new in or try harder. And of course, the diet resolution concerning health and fitness. However, no matter how simple or spontaneous they can be, do they really work?

Personally, I don't think so. Firstly, it is great to start the new year with good intentions and a positive perspective, as it can bring more hope and happiness to the start of your year. However, when life is back into full flow of routine and normality after January, the perseverance of writing a diary for example can take its toll and the newness wear off.

Secondly, typical resolutions like going to the gym or walking more can be fulfilling to start a new year on, but are mostly short-lived. Excuse me for sounding like a pessimist, but I think simple and sweet resolutions should be the way forward! Sometimes we try too hard and push ourselves to be a new person in many ways, so why don't we just take a step back and think of a way we can benefit from and others around us for a happier way of life.

For example, let's simply try to be more sincere in the way we are daily: smile more at strangers, laugh at least twice a day, write a positive thing that has happened to you during the day, no matter how plain and simple. I personally think that through these humble gestures, you will better yourself on the inside and glow from the outside. Let's take the pressure away from attempting to be a new me but strive to be a better me!
