Scotland is at war, and the hero of the battle is Macbeth. This is the story of Macbeth's rise to power, and the terrible consequences of his ambition.

Ssssshhh! Did you know that some actors won’t even say the name of this play? Superstition says that the play is cursed, and just saying the word ‘Macbeth’ inside a theatre will cause disaster!

Discussion

What went wrong for Macbeth? Is there a moment in the story when he could have done things better and avoided tragedy?

The moment where he got to greedy for his own good and along with his wife decided to kill king Duncan. If he had waited a little bit longer he could have saved his and other peoples lives.

The thing that went wrong for Mcbeth was that he wanted power really badly. He shouldn't have listened to his wife when she said that they should kill the king. If he hadn't killed the king or anyone else this wouldn't have happened and he could live his life without regrets.

The moment Macbeth became so hungry for power that he was willing to harm people, was the moment it went wrong for Macbeth. If he hadn't listened to his wife and his greed for power, his life would've been better and he could've avoided tragedy.

He shouldn't have listened to his wife when she wanted to kill Duncan. He probably shouldn't even have married her in the first place, because even if Macbeth would have resisted in killing Duncan, his wife would probably have done it anyway. Then Duncan's son would still have fled the country, Macbeth would have become king, would have got paranoid and would have killed all his friends anyway.

I think he was too greedy for power and therefore took drastic measures in order to become king. It was wrong of him to follow his wife's plan to kill king Duncan, he should have worked for his place in the kingdom instead of being so impatient.

He became power-mad and killed everyone in his way to become king of Scotland. Instead he should have waited a little while and hoped that the witches' prediction were right and become king without killing everyone. If he had done that he would have avoided the tragedy.

I think he married a wrong woman, was too ambitious, was superstitious, longed for money, land and power.
he shouldn't have followed his wife's plan and killed the king Duncan. He should have waited and worked hard for the success, then the tragedy could have been avoided.

Hi Joesir,
that's an interesting point, and yes, the tragedy comes over her being a seeker of power. I think so was Macbeth when we get right down to it. But I'm not really sure who is to be blamed. History often tells us that here's always a wrong woman behind the scene.....

No, definitely not. He couldn't have done things better.
If he had avoided the tragedy, the story wouldn't have been an immortal work...
Well…., it's hard to profoundly sympathize with Macbeth!

Macbeth, I love this drama!
"Look like the innocent flower but be the serpent underneath"_lady Macbeth_
Ambition is a very big motive and so is power and greed for both of them.Triggered by a serpent like wife, Macbeth is no moral man. He did have moral sense before his wife pursued him yet by the right push he fell in align into a very high road to power destroying everything.
He could have overcome his will when his wife tempted him to kill Duncan
He could have been guilty and stayed where he was when he washed his hands of blood.
He could have not killed Banquo.
Yet the charges against him are very heavy indeed. He murdered a whole family of children and a wife(mac duff's). Despite his charges we can show a slight sympathy to Macbeth for facing macduff in order to die nobly in courage in defiance of his anti-heroism

Hi Silvermist,
Poor, Lady Macbeth!
I like Macbeth, he's a helpless tragic hero; at the same time, so miserable…!
Very human…..☆
