In the Italian city of Verona, two families hate each other. Romeo is from the Montague family and Juliet is a Capulet, but they fall in love at first sight. This is their tragic love story.

Have you seen the film? The 1996 film version of Romeo and Juliet was a huge success and people love the story just as much today as when the play was first published in 1597!

Discussion

Are Romeo and Juliet’s deaths just a tragic accident? If not, who is responsible?

Do you think the story of Romeo and Juliet is relevant to life today?

I have no idea whether Romeos and Juliets still exists today yet as to whether it was a tragic accident, that I have my analyses. Tybalt and mecrutio they die by hate not by chance. But Romeo and Juliet?
The play has many themes, and fate is one of them. So I think it was the inevitable fate of Romeo and Juliet to die. The friar seems to think it's his fault but it's not. The blame does fall into the hands of the Montague and Capulet but then again not entirely.
The whole drama would have been a cheerful comedy if not for the sombre deaths. Their death is neither their fault for both of them had no tragic flaw like the other characters in Shakespearean drama. They reunite in death triumphing the bond of love between them which I guess must have been Shakespeare's motive to make it serve to heal the wound between the Montague and the Capulet. Romeo and Juliet, in my opinion lies in a line as which I quote my own " the deaths of two innocent teenagers in love, extinguishing the fire of two families admist extinguishing their own love."

Well, the epilogue seems to be as a result of an accident, but I think it's hard to blame someone. Maybe, they were meant to be together forever anyway……..☆

Elsaoo7,
"meant to be together." Till death do us part is no longer applicable in this play.
